2nd Machine

Those of you who have been in of recent will have noticed a few changes to the layout. We now have a 2nd synesso machine dealing with the coffee onslaught. The recent trials have cut down wait time and allowed a little more personalised service. This also extends to the retail area which has been moved, it allows us to have a chat about the coffees and be able go through any questions or queries.
The new storage cabinet is great, thanks Sam and Bryce.

You gotta sustain!

All WAC'd off and back to business, a 20 footer arrived this week carrying some green goodies. The Bolivian CoE lot, Burundi micros and a Sulawesi toraja that blew our minds when we cupped it . So look out over the next week as we release some of these new coffees.
Last week the Victorian Architects held the award ceremony for 2010 and surprise surprise we won the sustainable award. My money was on the ANZ building with the whirly windmills on the top
but we inched ahead and took out the prize. Thanks Jeremy and B-town for the fine looking place we work out of.

WBC, WAC offs, & COE

Michael made to the semi finals of the of the World aeropress championships with some stiff opposition and we have lot 9 of the EL Salvador CoE auction and Scottie Callaghan is through to the semi's,.
To say we are having a ball would be an understatement!
Catching up with some great friends in London, producers, suppliers and colleagues. Has been lovely to see Tim Styles at Penny as well as Tim Varney. A large Australian contingent on the ground here.
Back home on Monday, we have a new roaster on the way as well as a few changes happening soon.

Esmeralda

Success in the Esmeralda auction last week. So a lot is headed to Melbourne. The cupboard is just about to be restocked, our Costa rican container is close and our mixed container is even closer. We really do have some outstanding coffees for the rest of this year. The new season Carlos Imbachi will be in later in the year as well as some other solid Colombians. The CoE auctions are just about to start as well, good times. Look at the BOP auction last night $300 us a kilo for the Esmeralda lot wow.

Panama

Just a quick heads up for the cupping, Esmeralda auction tonight so what would we be cupping on Thursday? Great to see Tim O'b in the house this week, a member of Cafe imports but also and more importantly the grower/producer of Cafetin a coffee we have regularly, which is a stunner. The Nekisse is floating a few peoples boats at the moment. Some comments have been, "best espresso ever" to wow "can coffee do that". Would like to comment on a few coffee critics who enjoy sour, woody, bitter coffee but nah!

El Salvador

I'm currently in El Salvador, after 55 coffees passed the National jury we have finished with around 30 outstanding CoE coffees. The depth and character of coffee in this country is outstanding. I'm happy to say, as a jury member, I would be happy to have anyone of these coffees in my green room.
Sounds like its been a manic week back at HQ. Some great coffees about to hit the decks, and some interesting blend developments.

NZ

A quick sojourn over the Tasman to check out a few things, happened to wander across the NZBC on the Saturday. Congrats Luciano, it looked to be a great turnout and a bit of a who's who. To the guy who wanted to sell me the PNG "natural" sorry! Anyway back on track now.
So keep cups, COTY winners, and new roaster, wow last week was large. Bringing it back to normal this week, some profiling our new coffees, nervous waiting for newer coffees, and blend development.

Head down..

Back at the coal face, roasting and selecting some new coffees. We are eagerly awaiting some new Central American shipments. A reminder that our Thursday cuppings are at 10.00am. We have had a pretty good turnout with the A-minor guys and a few other industry people being regulars of recent.
So some interesting s/o's available at the moment, the Guji, the Carlos Imbachi ( cupping around the 89point level), and last of the CoE #18.

Cupping, COE & coffee

A huge couple of weeks with the CoE seminar finishing yesterday, food & wine festival and 7seeds. Also our beloved Bowen is back in the house after a OS sojourn. Thanks to all those who supported the seminar, to our volunteers, and of course Susie and Erwin.
The Australian roasting fraternity has certainly been accepted into the CoE fold with a few roasters of to jury/observe this year.

So back to the job ahead this week, and green coffee , our brazils should finally be in the house. Our centrals are finalized and we have some new coffees on the way.

Easter hours.. BBB closed..
